These are nonstarters. North Dakotans don’t support this $1.5 trillion wish list nor will I.” On September 19, 2025, the House passed a Continuing Resolution (CR). The legislation is a simple, short-term funding extension for 7 weeks that continues to fund the government at current levels—levels that Democrats enacted and have previously supported—until November 21, 2025. Passing the CR allows Congress to continue FY26 appropriations negotiations and return to funding the government through regular order. However, the CR requires 60 votes to pass in the Senate. Senate Democrats voted against passing the CR, creating a lapse in government funding and causing the government to shut down. The alternate Democrat-supported resolution would inject partisan policies and massive spending into the funding process. It includes a $1.5T proposal that would cost taxpayers an additional $48.39 billion a day just to keep the government open for a month. Specifically, the Democrat-supported CR: Removes the modest 20-hour per week work requirements established in the Working Families Tax Cuts for able-bodied, working-age adults on Medicaid Restores taxpayer-funded free healthcare for illegal aliens Eliminates safeguards to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicaid program, such as removing deceased individuals from the program Restores the Biden administration’s one-size-fits-all minimum staffing mandate for nursing homes Repeals the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Fund, hurting hospitals and clinics in vulnerable communities | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T19:32:54Z |
