Right now, the Chinese Communist Party exercises strong control of the critical mineral supply chain—creating a real vulnerability for the United States. Expanding domestic mineral production is essential to supporting our energy infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, national defense, and emerging technologies,” Fedorchak said. “This bill will help increase mineral production, strengthen our supply chains, and create good-paying jobs at home.” The Critical Mineral Dominance Act codifies key executive actions to accelerate responsible domestic mining and reduce the nation’s reliance on imported minerals—many of which are currently sourced from countries that do not share U.S. values or strategic interests. The legislation directs federal agencies to identify priority mining projects, speed up permitting where appropriate, expand geologic mapping, and review regulations that unnecessarily delay domestic mineral development. It also requires clearer analysis of the economic costs of America’s reliance on imported minerals and highlights opportunities to recover critical minerals from existing mine sites and byproducts.
