Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) was included in the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee’s National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act. “Quantum computing has the power to lower input costs for our farmers, improve energy storage and battery technologies, produce safer medications for patients, and support American agriculture and manufacturing. But, Main Street America has yet to reap the benefits of this cutting-edge science,” said Rep. Feenstra. “I’m proud that my Quantum in Practice Act is included in this comprehensive quantum initiative package to find real solutions that benefit our rural communities and ensure American manufacturing leads the world. With the inclusion of my bill, we can harness the full potential of quantum simulations to increase domestic fertilizer production and end our reliance on foreign countries for the resources that our farmers and producers depend on to feed and fuel our country and the world. In Congress, I will continue to work with my colleagues to invest in rural America, support our family farmers, and encourage cutting-edge research that protects the productivity and competitiveness of American agriculture and manufacturing.” Among many provisions, this legislation would direct the Secretary of Energy to develop a strategy to advance quantum computing, authorize the Department of Energy to establish quantum foundries to support the quantum supply chain, and require the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to author a strategic plan to compete against China and Russia in the quantum field.
