Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today released the following statement after the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act: This is an exciting day for Georgians in the Third District and people across America. The individual tax cuts in this bill give Americans real tax relief for the first time in a generation, ensuring hard-working folks can take home more of the money they earned. Under this bill, the typical family of four earning $73,000 a year will receive a tax cut of $2,059, and a single parent earning $41,000 will receive a tax cut of $1,300, a 73% reduction in their tax bill. That is money you can use to pay your bills, send your children to college or pay for a vacation; things every American would rather do than send their hard-earned money to a wasteful federal bureaucracy. For too long, we have had a tax regime that is a barrier to the meaningful economic growth, but, with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we are finally lowering the tax burden on job creators and ensuring businesses can invest in their communities and workers. I have said time and again that the United States should be the most competitive place in the world to do business, and todays vote creates an environment where businesses and innovators can grow, create jobs and increase wages for hard-working employees. This bill also gives Americans freedom from Obamacares individual mandate. Forcing Americans to either purchase a product they dont want or pay a penalty is the worst kind of government overreach. I am proud to keep my promise to my constituents to provide relief from this regulatory burden. There is still a lot of work to be done to fix our broken healthcare system, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to increase access to care and decrease costs for all Americans.
