Figures (AL-02) sent a letter to House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT" Thompson requesting a hearing to examine President Trump’s recent proclamation authorizing the import of 300,000 metric tons of foreign beef that can be sold below market-rate, a move that provides minimal to no relief to consumers while harming the long-term viability of local cattle farmers. “The Administration has stated that the action is intended to address elevated beef prices and increase the supply of ground beef for American consumers,” Figures wrote. “However, the decision has raised significant concerns among cattle producers, agricultural organizations, and consumers about what, if any, economic relief this policy will provide. Furthermore, industry stakeholders have raised concerns that the potential long-term negative impacts of this policy, including higher beef prices and forcing cattle farmers out of business, outweigh any short-term relief, which would be temporary and minimal at best.” This move by President Trump comes at a time when farmers are already being hammered by the President’s war in Iran and retaliatory tariffs caused by the White House’s reckless trade policies.	1	2026-09-01T09:48:49Z	2026-09-01T09:49:51Z
