Finkenauer was joined by USDA Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation Bill Northey. Finkenauer and Northey also toured and met with farmers at the Black Hawk County corn and soy bean test plot. I was happy to host Under Secretary Northey in Iowa's First Congressional District to hear what's important to Iowa's farmers and producers, Congresswoman Finkenauer said, This was an opportunity to listen and lift up the voices of farmers who are being impacted by the trade war and increasing number of small refinery waivers from the Renewable Fuel Standard. I'm committed to working with Northey and anyone who is serious about listening and taking action for Iowa. During the discussions, Congresswoman Finkenauer also unveiled her Fighting for Iowa's Farmers & Rural Way of Life plan. The plan is a roadmap to guide policy discussions and elevate Iowa's voices at the federal level to ensure Iowa's agriculture economy and rural comminutes remain strong for generations. The plan includes eight key points: Expand Markets Abroad and Reduce Barriers to Trade Support New and Beginning Farmers Invest in our Locks and Dams and other Critical Infrastructure Protect Crop Insurance and Support a Robust Farm Safety Net Ease Regulatory Burdens for Farmers and Producers Promote our Renewable Fuels Sector and other Domestic Markets Support Entrepreneurship and Revitalization in Rural Economies Secure a Strong Future for Agriculture This is a set of priorities that I have developed through my eight months of speaking with Iowans and bringing Iowans to Washington, D.C. to speak about their priorities, Finkenauer said, I look forward to continuing these conversations with Iowa farmers and producers in our district and in Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Finkenauer has taken a leading role in standing up for Iowa's producers impacted by the trade war with China and small refinery waivers. Last week, she led a bipartisan letter calling for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to investigate the waiver review process. As chairwoman of the Rural Development, Agriculture, Trade, and Entrepreneurship, Congresswoman Finkenauer has brought Iowans to testify in Washington, D.C. about challenges facing them. She is committed to continuing to highlight Iowans' stories. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
