His life of service to others, working for equality, connection, understanding, and community exemplifies the very best of Houston. I am proud that the Senate has now passed my bill to rename the post office located at 315 Addicks Howell Road after Deputy Dhaliwal. I look forward to seeing the President sign this bill into law and to visiting the Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal Post Office, which will serve as a permanent reminder to the community of his service and sacrifice, for years to come. He was the first Sikh police officer to serve in the Harris County Sheriff's Office and was a role model and a trailblazer for Sikh Americans and religious minorities that sought to serve in law enforcement. On September 27, 2019, DeputyDhaliwalwas killed in the line of duty. In October 2019, Congresswoman Fletcher led the entire Houston delegation in introducing H. Res. 616, aresolutionto honor the life and mourn the loss of Deputy Dhaliwal andspokeon the House floor about his remarkable life and tragic death. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
