Although the compromise legislation did not meet all needs, it did provide some hope and certainty to millions who need it at this moment. Now, the President has rejected the work of the representatives of the people as well as of his own negotiators. This gamesmanship at this moment of great uncertainty and great need is unconscionable. I support increasing the direct payments to families in need. This morning, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Neal introduced the Caring for Americans with Supplemental Help (CASH) Act of 2020 to increase the amount of a second round of direct payments to $2,000. While the effort to pass the CASH Act in the House of Representatives was blocked this morning, I will vote in favor of this bill when the House meets to consider it on Monday. With this common-sense solution to the President's stated concern about the direct payments to Americans, I hope that the President will now sign the COVID relief and omnibus appropriations bill to address many of the pandemic's devastating impacts and keep the government functioning and funded at this critical time. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
