This announcement comes amid alarming unemployment figures. In the absence of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ October jobs report and timely November data, there has been a surge in layoffs across major industries, with AI integration cited as a significant factor. “Tens of thousands of Americans are receiving AI-related layoff notices this holiday season––all under President Trump’s watch,” said Congresswoman Valerie Foushee. “Yet Washington continues to stall on enacting meaningful AI policies that would protect American jobs and ensure our nation leads in the responsible development of this transformative technology. The American people deserve answers, and I’m fighting every day to deliver them on their behalf.” Key findings from Rep. Foushee’s report include: In response to these findings, Congresswoman Foushee sent a letter to the Chief Executive Officers of companies that have announced recent or major layoffs in 2025. The executives were asked to provide information regarding the extent and causes of these job cuts. The letters were sent to Amazon, Salesforce, Meta, Verizon, Microsoft, IBM, Google, Accenture, HP, Intel, Target, UPS, Synopsys, Lenovo. Companies are expected to respond by December 31, 2025.
