The letter comes after recent and ongoing wildfires have severely affected the region, impacting the local economy and the safety of its citizens. “The scale and severity of these incidents can be attributed to inadequate federal preventative measures and delayed response times,” wrote the lawmakers. “Valley County mainly consists of public land managed by the USFS. As such, the local economy is heavily reliant on forest management activities, including timber sales, recreational opportunities, and employment related to these initiatives. We urge prompt attention to this matter and look forward to working with the agency to safeguard Idaho’s forests.” The letter can be found here. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:57:20Z
