Garbarino (R-NY-02) voted in favor of the House of Representatives’ annual defense authorization bill which would authorize $857 billion for national defense. The Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) includes a 4.6% pay increase for servicemembers, strengthens the national security posture of the United States, and puts an end to the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccinate mandate for military personnel. The FY23 NDAA also includes the text of two pieces of legislation introduced by Rep. Garbarino. The Cybersecurity Grants for Schools Act: Sponsored by Rep. Garbarino, this bill would allow CISA to award grants or other financial assistance for cybersecurity and infrastructure security education and training programs at the elementary and secondary education levels in order to close the cybersecurity workforce gap. The Securing America’s Borders Against Fentanyl Act: Co-led by Rep. Garbarino, this bill would require DHS to focus on developing new technological solutions to target and detect illicit fentanyl at U.S. borders and ports of entry in order to address the national fentanyl crisis. “It has never been more imperative that we strengthen our national defense and ensure that our military is strong and prepared in the face of rising threats,” said Rep. Garbarino.
