The lawmakers argued that House leadership should support bipartisan COVID-19 relief legislation before the election. It has been suggested by some that Members of Congress are anxious to return to their districts to campaign in advance of the November 3rd election, even if that means leaving Capitol Hill without passing another COVID-19 relief bill, wrote the lawmakers. We want to be very clear that we do not in any way agree with this position. The lawmakers' push comes on the heels of abipartisan proposal from the Problem Solvers Caucus, which established a number of areas of agreement between the two parties. We strongly believe that until the House has successfully sent new,bipartisanCOVID-19 relief legislation to the Senate, our place of duty remains here in the People's House,Golden and his colleagues continued. We were elected to represent the best interests of our constituents and the country. Our constituents' expectations in the midst of this crisis are that we not only rise to the occasion and stay at the table until we have delivered the relief they so desperately need, but also that we set aside electoral politics and place the needs of the country before any one region, faction, or political party. 19 Democrats and 11 Republicans joined Golden, Fitzpatrick, Rice, and Gonzalez to send the letter to Pelosi and McCarthy, including Reps. Max Rose (NY-11), Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03), Fred Upton (MI-06), Anthony Brindisi (NY-22), Fred Upton (MI-06), Gil Cisneros (CA-39), Stephanie Murphy (FL-07), Joe Cunningham (SC-01), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Jim Costa (CA-16), Van Taylor (TX-03), Colin Allred (TX-32), Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Tom Suozzi (NY-03), John Katko (NY-24), Kurt Schrader (OR-05), Susan Wild (PA-07), Abby Finkenauer (IA-01), Kendra Horn (OK-05), Susie Lee (NV-03), Mike Gallagher (WI-08), Paul Cook (CA-08), Tom Reed (NY-23), Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), and Don Bacon (NE-02). Today's effort is the latest in a series of actions Congressman Golden has taken to bring members of the House together around a bipartisan compromise on COVID-19 relief. In May, hevoted against the HEROES Act, because he believed the legislation deliberately abandons [a bipartisan, consensus] approach and makes more difficult the type of compromise that will be required to deliver the support our country needs. In August, heled a bipartisan group of 18 membersto urge House leaders to restart negotiations. He has repeatedly pressed for bipartisan solutions to address the effects of COVID, includingsmall business relief, aid forloggersandlobstermen, rural hospitals, andfunding for state and local governments.
