Republican Congressman Buddy Carter (GA-01) joined Golden to introduce the legislation. Golden's bill would require drug manufacturers to include printed inserts containing drug information when they ship their products to pharmacies. Pharmacies often print this information for patients, however they are not required to do so under current law. As a result, some patients never receive important information on the safety, dosage, and other details of their prescriptions with important health consequences because there is no legal requirement to provide them. Many Mainers don't have access to online information about their prescription drugs,said Golden.If my constituents don't have reliable broadband, or aren't comfortable using a computer, they still need to have access to potentially life-saving facts about their medications. My bipartisan bill will make sure rural Mainers and seniors have the information they need to use their medication safely and will support hundreds of jobs in our state's forest products industry. In addition to ensuring that all Mainers have important safety information about their prescriptions, the bill would help to protect hundreds of Maine jobs at the Twin Rivers Paper Company's Madawaska Paper Mill.
