https://gonzalez-colon.house.gov/media/press-releases/congresswoman-gonzalez-colon-statement-regarding-puerto-rico-integrity-medicare Congresswoman Gonzalez Colon Statement regarding PUERTO RICO INTEGRITY IN MEDICARE ADVANTAGE ACT 2018-12-20 2018 2018-12 Republican House PR Jenniffer González-Colón G000582 gonzalez-colon.house.gov     legacy Mr. Speaker, health care infrastructure in Puerto Rico remains dangerously unstable. Unlike the mainland, most Medicare beneficiaries with Part A and Part B coverage, receive their care through local Advantage plans. In 2011, Puerto Rico's per patient per (PPP) month was $595 and is now $511. The National average was $787 and now is $826. That is a negative impact of $315 for Puerto Rico. The 2019 average MA rate, for Puerto Rico is even 25% below the other territories; and 43% below the national rates. This is the reason why physicians and providers are leaving the Island. HR 6809, will rectify this disparity in MA rates. That is the reason why I ask my colleagues to support HR 6809. H.R. 6809 is co-sponsored by Jos Serrano (D-NY), Don Bacon (R-NE), Darren Soto (D-FL), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), Peter King (R-NY), Nydia Velzquez (D-NY), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Amata Radewagen (R-American Samoa). This initiative of the Congresswoman has the endorsement of several public and private entities in Puerto Rico. For example, the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, the Senate of Puerto Rico, the Board of Supervision and Financial Administration for Puerto Rico, Centro Unido Detallistas, IPA Association; medical plans, Medicaid and Medicare Advantage Products Association of Puerto Rico (MMAPA), Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) and others. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
