https://gonzalez-colon.house.gov/media/press-releases/jenniffer-gonzalez-announces-54-million-funds-broadband-safety-network-and-fema Jenniffer Gonzalez announces $54 million in funds for Broadband Safety Network and FEMA disbursements 2018-11-26 2018 2018-11 Republican House PR Jenniffer González-Colón G000582 gonzalez-colon.house.gov     legacy Washington, DC - Jenniffer Gonzlez Coln announced the approval of $ 450,000 in funds by the Department of Commerce for the public safety broadband network and the reimbursements of funds by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to municipalities and government agencies, for work related to Hurricane Maria totaling $ 53,502,781.39. The National Information and Telecommunications Administration (NTIA) granted the Puerto Rico Office for Public Safety. These funds are given under the Jobs Creation and Tax Relief Act of the middle class of 2012 that created a national public safety broadband network (NPSBN) dedicated to police, firefighters, emergency medical services professionals and other public security entities, which gave way to the First Responder Network Authority or FirstNet within the NTIA. The Law also mandated the NTIA to establish a grant program, the State and Local Implementation Grants Program (SLIGP), to help local governments identify, plan and implement the most efficient means and effective to use and integrate the infrastructure, equipment and other architectures associated with the NPSBN to meet the broadband and wireless data needs of their jurisdictions. The funds that FEMA disburses come from different assignments that the Congresswoman has worked from Congress, through the budget projects or through the projects of disaster supplementals. These funds are given under the Public Assistance program and are available once the recipients complete all the required documentation and after it has been reviewed by the government. Under Category A, for debris removal expenses, the Municipality of Trujillo Alto was approved $ 6,165,957.05 and the Department of Education, $ 13,718,121.18. Category B covers the measures taken to provide "essential assistance" to address immediate threats to life and property resulting from a major disaster. Under this category, $ 19,844,363.30 was approved to the Bayamn Region of the Department of Education; $ 10,890,000.00 for temporary facilities of the Department of Education; and $ 2,884,339.86 for the Industrial Development. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
