ARLINGTON, VA — Yesterday, Tuesday, September 1, 2026, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Pentagon Memorial to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, in advance of the 25th anniversary. The Congressman joined fellow Members of Congress to pay tribute to the 184 lives lost at the Pentagon and the nearly 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11. “Twenty-five years later, we still carry the memory of the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11th, 750 of which were from New Jersey. We will never forget,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “We honor those we lost, the families who carry that grief every day, and the first responders and service members who ran toward danger. As we mark this solemn anniversary, we recommit ourselves to their memory and to keeping our nation safe.” Gottheimer serves as the Co-Chair of the bipartisan House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence review of the 9/11 Commission Report. The review evaluates the progress made on the intelligence-related recommendations produced by the 9/11 Commission Report, released in July 2004, and identifies areas of improvement to protect against the next generation of threats. Gottheimer has helped lead and pass legislation like the bipartisan Never Forget the Heroes Act, to fully fund the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund to provide long-overdue support to cover 9/11 survivors, first responders, and their families for injuries, medical expenses, and other benefits. Gottheimer is continuing to fight to pass the bipartisan FIRE Cancer Act to provide federal investments so that all firefighters can get access to preventative tests, including multi-cancer early detection tests.
