The members sent a letter to the chairs and ranking members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees expressing grave concern over Sec. 529 of H.R. 4350, which would grant military courts the authority to strip servicemembers of their Second Amendment rights without due process and without the servicemember being present in court to defend themselves. “Every single day, brave American servicemembers serve in harm’s way to defend our nation, our way of life, and the very constitutional rights that Sec. 529 would erode,” the members wrote. “This dangerous provision must be excluded from the final package.” “The NDAA is supposed to be about supporting our troops and giving them the tools we need to keep our country safe,” said Graves. “It’s unconscionable that liberals would try to sneak a provision into this critical legislation to unconstitutionally strip servicemembers of their Second Amendment rights. This provision must be removed from the final bill, just like it was last year.
