As a result, the U.S. Census Bureau announced that the count will end on Thursday, October 15 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii time. With this ruling, the Supreme Court gives a green light to the Trump Administration to move forward with ending the Census earlydespite ?a pandemic and?the low response rates in hard-to-count communities, said Rep. Ral M. Grijalva. A failure to count all individuals in this country, including immigrants, minority, low-income and tribal members fails the future of our country and imperils billions of dollars in federal aid to our communitiesincluding right here in Southern Arizona. According to a new report, if there is just a 1 percent undercount in the 2020 Census, the residents of the 3rd District of Arizona could lose: $6.2 million in federal funding for Medicaid, the Children's Health Insurance Program, and foster care assistance programs. $416,000 in federal funding for schools that have a high proportion of low-income students, or the equivalent of all the textbooks that 1,664 students would need in a school year. $318,000 in federal funding for job training centers and career counseling. Trump has engaged in a nonstop relentless assault on the integrity of the Census to suppress the participation of ?our most vulnerable communities?, continued Rep. Grijalva.
