This action comes after months of obstruction from Democrats over their refusal to vote in favor of any bill that provided funding for border security and immigration funding, which resulted in the 76-day shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). S. 2 passed the House by a vote of 214 to 212. The bill, which initially passed the Senate on June 5, 2026, now heads to President Trump's desk for signature. “Our nation cannot afford to return to the open borders and catch-and-release policies that caused the worst immigration crisis in our nation’s history. I was proud to vote in favor of legislation to provide funding for essential border security and immigration enforcement operations through September 2029,” said Congressman Guthrie. “For months, Republicans attempted to negotiate in good faith with our colleagues on the other side of the aisle, offering reforms to ICE enforcement and operations.
