https://gwenmoore.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=4875 Congresswoman Gwen Moore Successfully Secures Funding For Seven Milwaukee Community Projects in the FY 2022 Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill 2021-07-16 2021 2021-07 Democrat House WI Gwen Moore M001160 gwenmoore.house.gov gwenmoore https://gwenmoore.house.gov/news/documentquery.aspx?DocumentTypeID=27 scraper Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) successfully secured $4.38 million for seven Milwaukee community projects in the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2022. In response, Congresswoman Moore released the following statement: “Community projects are an incredible opportunity to invest in our neighborhoods, schools, and programs that are lifting up residents, fighting inequities head on, and providing support to our residents. My office received numerous requests from community stakeholders to help address some pressing issues in our community. And while I had the unenviable task of selecting a handful to put forward, the seven projects that have been included in this funding bill address real needs in our community and will support job training and employment opportunities for those who face barriers to employment, support vulnerable Milwaukee Public School (MPS) students, provide funding to help increase access to higher education for first generation students and those who have been involved in the criminal justice system, help reach more veterans with mental health and other support services, help bring a new community health center pharmacy to the southside, and fund research into racial inequities in employment, housing, poverty in our region to help us develop effective responses. Recipients of the funding are: Marquette University, UW-Milwaukee, MPS, Great Lakes DryHootch Inc., the Metropolitan Milwaukee Sewerage District. United Community Center, and the Urban Economic Development Association of Wisconsin. “These local organizations understand the big challenges facing our community. And I can tell you, when I called each of these recipients to tell them help was on the way, they were overjoyed. I commend my good friend and Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Rosa DeLauro, for her recognition of the great importance these projects have in helping address challenges in my district and I look forward to supporting this bill when it comes to the House floor.” Read more about the community projects here.
