Today, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) secured funding for New Mexico priorities in the Fiscal Year 2020 funding bill focused on domestic and foreign assistance. Haaland fought for priorities including funding for rural schools, military housing, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, anti-poverty grants, and Native American community economic development. When we focus on the things that matter to communities, our families will thrive. Today, I proudly cast my vote for a budget bill that includes funding for education, job training, and economic development. New Mexico communities will now have the support to create opportunities for everyone and the resources to thrive, said Congresswoman Deb Haaland. Haaland secured the following funding priorities to build opportunities for New Mexico families: Creating Opportunities for New Mexico families: $523.95 million for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, a program that supports local recreation centers, ball parks, trails, wildlife refuges, and rivers; $1.7 billion for job training through Job Corps; $3.425 billion for Community Development Block Grants that are used to fund funds local community development activities with the stated goal of providing affordable housing, anti-poverty programs, and infrastructure development; $1.1 billion for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which funds AmeriCorps and SeniorCorps programs; Extension of the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) and Community Self-Determination Act to provide schools in 770 rural counties near national forests with funding meant to offset declining federal timber sales; $143 million for Hispanic-Serving Institutions, which includes the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College; $319 million for rural health care; $688 million for Maternal and Child Health Block Grant. Standing Up For Indian Country $2.5 million for advanced training to address MMIW to provide greater access to programs in Indian Country law enforcement personnel and create safer communities; $52.5 million for community and economic development programs including $3,000,000 for grants to federally recognized Tribes and tribal organizations to provide native language instruction and immersion programs to native students not enrolled at Bureau of Indian Education schools. Supporting Military Personnel and Their Families $1.3 billion to fund construction, operation, and maintenance of military family housing for all 2,006,171 military families currently served by the program; $15.5 million for combat mission helicopter simulator to enhance Kirtland Air Force Base training operations; $22.4 million for Kirtland Air Force Base helicopter storage facility replacement. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
