Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) spoke at the Farmers for Free Trade Press Conference to advocate for passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Hagedorn joined a bipartisan group of representatives and agriculture leaders at the Capitol Hill press conference. He said of the USMCA's benefits to agriculture: Our bipartisan press conference highlighted how important the USMCA is to our farmers and America's agriculture sector. The dairy farmers, in particular, have been struggling for 5-6 years with low commodity prices and high input costs. The USMCA will deliver a needed win to them and all agriculture producers. The USMCA will benefit our people, our communities and our way of life. Further, the USMCA will build momentum for deals with other countries like Japan and China. It will expand our economy and defend rural America. This is a win before us, just waiting for us to take action. I join my colleagues and America's agriculture leaders on calling on Speaker Pelosi to give us a vote on the USMCA. Other press conference speakers included U.S. Reps. Collin Peterson (D-MN-07), Mike Conaway (R-TX-11), Kevin Brady (R-TX-08) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX-28), former USDA Secretary and President and CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council Tom Vilsack, President of the American Farm Bureau Federation Zippy Duvall, President of the National Association of Wheat Growers Ben Scholz and former U.S. Senator and Farmers for Free Trade Spokesperson Blanche Lincoln. Groups represented at the press conference included: Farmers for Free Trade, Farm Bureau, American Soybean Association, National Corn Growers, US Apple Association, National Milk Producers Federation, U.S. Dairy Export Council, Corn Refiners Association, National Association of Wheat Growers and Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota's First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family's grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim's father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies.
