The legislation passed the House with broad bipartisan support and now moves to the Senate for consideration. Following the vote, Rep. Hagedorn issued the following statement: This relief package is much needed and long overdue. For months on end, Speaker Pelosi shamelessly withheld aid from the American people in order to deny President Trump a legislative victory and prop up her party's electoral prospects. Rather than working together to meet the needs of our constituents, Speaker Pelosi pushed a progressive wish list' of radical policies that have nothing to do with helping Americans overcome the pandemic. I am proud of the way our House Republican Conference held strong and secured a PPP extension, clarified an important small businesses tax deduction issue, and streamlined the process for businesses and banks to convert PPP loans to grants. Altogether, our commonsense relief policies will benefit American small businesses, farmers, workers, and families. While imperfect, this package will go a long way to help small businesses maintain operations, enable hardworking Americans to provide for their families, and position our frontline healthcare professionals to successfully fight COVID-19. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee and the House Small Business Committee, Congressman Hagedorn advocated for and supported the inclusion of several key provisions in the COVID-19 relief package, including: Extension of the PPP, along with tax deductibility for PPP expenses; Opportunity for businesses facing severe revenue losses to apply for a second draw PPP loan; PPP loan eligibility for 501(c)(6) organizations, such as local chambers of commerce; Nearly $50 billion to aid vaccine distribution and testing efforts in order to reopen the economy; Enhanced assistance under the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) to support farmers, agribusinesses, local producers, processers, and rural communities; SBA grants to assist live venue operators, including those associated with county fairs, who lost 25 percent or more of revenues; and, $7 billion to fund broadband projects, including telehealth and rural broadband expansion. Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota's First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family's grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim's father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies.
