Jim Hagedorn (MN-01) voted today in favor of two spending packages that would fund the government for Fiscal Year 2020. While I am disappointed with the process by which these bills were developed and with the lack of transparency or concern for the skyrocketing federal deficit, I voted in favor of these measures because they include permanent tax relief and other measures needed by our country and the residents of southern Minnesota. The provisions rebuild our military, provide a three percent pay increase for our troops, retroactively extend the $1 per gallon biodiesel tax credit, repeal the Cadillac, medical device and health insurance taxes, and promote competition in the biological products and drug markets by facilitating the entry of lower-cost generic and biosimilar versions of those products and treatments through inclusion of the CREATES Act, said Hagedorn. Jim Hagedorn was elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota's First District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He grew up on his family's grain and livestock farm near Truman. Jim's father, former U.S. Congressman Tom Hagedorn (MN-02), grandfather, and great-grandfather were all southern Minnesota farmers. Jim currently resides in the rural farming community of Blue Earth. Hagedorn brings policy experience to Capitol Hill from time spent as a congressional aide to former U.S. Congressman Arlan Stangeland (MN-07) and a congressional relations officer for two non-partisan U.S. Department of the Treasury agencies.
