Carper Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2024, authorizing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program. The legislation improves the nation's water infrastructure through locally-driven projects that protect communities from flooding and support economic development. Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-05) voted in support of the bill, which authorizes $75 million for water resources infrastructure projects in Kentucky. It prioritizes flood risk management along the Kentucky River and directs the Army Corps to expedite completion of a flood warning emergency evacuation plan along the Kentucky River. "This bill gives the Army Corps the green light to move forward on critical projects that will help expand and enhance reliable water and wastewater resources, and vital projects that help protect our communities from flooding," said Congressman Rogers. "In an effort to expedite needs in hard-hit areas, the bill creates a pilot program for the Army Corps to prioritize projects in rural and economically disadvantaged communities." WRDA also directs the Corps to develop guidance to standardize fees administered for real estate, including marinas. Separately, the legislation also advances joint legislation introduced by Congressman Rogers and U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell earlier this year, designating the federal courthouse in London, Kentucky as the "Eugene E. Siler, Jr. United States Courthouse Annex." Judge Siler's trusted leadership on the federal bench for nearly 50 years, has garnered the respect of the nation's highest office with judicial appointments by three U.S. Presidents.
