U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) voted to keep those programs running and the federal government open as part of the continuing resolution that was passed by the House on September 19. Senate Democrats have voted down the House plan at least 12 times, refusing to reopen the federal government. “The answer to pay for SNAP, Head Start, military and other federal paychecks is simple – Washington Democrats need to end the government shutdown. The House passed a simple, clean bill to give us time to finalize our work for federal funding through 2026, including more time to work on healthcare for the American people. Instead, food aid for more than 40 million Americans is now at risk – and that is unacceptable,” said Congressman Rogers, Dean of the House. “Senate Democrats need to put the American people above politics and reopen the federal government.” The Senate needs 60 votes to pass the continuing resolution to reopen the federal government. With only 53 Republicans in the Senate, Democrat support is necessary to end the government shutdown.
