https://hankjohnson.house.gov/media-center/e-newsletters/open-letter-congressman-hank-johnson-all-our-veterans-and-their-families An open letter from Congressman Hank Johnson to all our veterans and their families on Veterans Day 2019 2019-11-08 2019 2019-11 Democrat House GA Hank Johnson J000288 hankjohnson.house.gov     legacy Dear Veterans and families, Every Veterans Day, Americans come together to remember those who have served our country around the world in the name of freedom and democracy. The debt we owe you is immeasurable. Your sacrifices, and those of your families, are freedom's foundation. Without the brave efforts of all of you -- soldiers, sailors, airmen and women, Marines and Coast Guardsmen and women and your families -- our country would not be free. When I was first elected to Congress in 2007, I made the pledge of Taking Care of Home First. For me, that means every day I'm inspired to work on behalf of all our military personnel and veterans not just on Veterans Day. And while Veterans Day is the solemn remembrance of our fallen heroes, I work to ensure that quality services are being delivered to each of you and consider it one of my greatest missions as a public servant. Every day in my district office here in Georgia, we work to assist veterans with obtaining their military records and medals, with questions they have concerning eligibility for benefits provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and with those who may be experiencing difficulties with the VA Health Care System or the VA claims and appeals process. We've experienced painful lessons of fighting wars without properly preparing for the healthcare costs and psychological toll when our soldiers return home, but that just makes us work twice as hard to ensure our veterans and their families receive the benefits owed to them. I thank each of you for your service and can assure you that as long as I am in Congress, your needs will remain a priority for me and my staff. Thank you for everything you do. Best to you and your loved ones on this Veterans Day weekend. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
