The funding, part of more than $600 million in awards provided nationwide, comes through the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) program to support the mental health and wellness of law enforcement officers and staff. “This $200,000 grant will directly benefit our law enforcement officers in Conyers by providing them with critical mental health resources and support,” said Congressman Johnson. “Our officers face tremendous challenges every day, and ensuring their well-being is essential not only for them but also for the safety and strength of our communities.” The award is part of a broader national initiative to support state, local, tribal, and other entities through various COPS Office grant programs, including funding to hire new officers, improve school safety, and combat the opioid and methamphetamine crises. The LEMHWA program, specifically, aims to improve access to mental health services for law enforcement officers and staff, an increasingly critical issue for police departments nationwide.
