Hank Johnson (GA-04) responded to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling against the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate and asking of the district court, which had previously struck down the entirety of the ACA, to determine next steps. Rep. Johnson highlighted the devastating impact that this ruling could have on more than 460,000 Georgians, especially those with pre-existing conditions. Nationwide, more than 130 million Americans will be be impacted. "This week's ruling in support of the Trump Administration's all-out assault on health care in the courts is a grave blow to the health and financial security of Georgia families who rely on the Affordable Care Act's life-saving protections," said Rep. Johnson. "On day one of this Congress, our House Democratic Majority voted to throw the full legal weight of the House of Representatives into the fight against this lawsuit, and we will continue to fight in the courts and the Congress to protect and strengthen Americans' health care." The ruling could have disastrous consequences on the health and financial well-being of Georgia families: • 4.3 million – Number of Georgia men, women and children who have pre-existing conditions and will lose their protections. • 461,000 – Number of Georgians who will lose all health care coverage. • 74,000 – Young Georgians under age 26 who will lose the ability to remain on their parents' insurance. • $4,183 – Amount of a new "Age Tax" that insurance companies could charge Georgians over the age of 50. • 3.3 million – Number of Georgians who face reinstated lifetime and annual limits on coverage. • 350,000 – Number of Georgians who will pay more for coverage without access to health insurance affordability tax credits. • 138,000 – Number of Georgia seniors who will have to pay more for their prescription drugs. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-06-27T23:45:33Z |
