Harper Releases Statement on House Passage of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act 2017-11-16 2017 2017-11 Republican House MS Gregg Harper H001045 harper.house.gov     legacy Rep. Harper Releases Statement on House Passage of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act WASHINGTONCongressman Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) issued the following statement on the House of Representatives passage of H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act: Today, the House took an important step toward bringing financial relief for all Americans. The last major tax reform bill was signed into law by President Reagan in 1986 over thirty years ago. Since that time, our tax code has become more burdensome, over-complicated, and unfair especially for middle-class Americans. Our country is in need of serious tax reform that helps grow the economy and ease the burden on hard-working Americans. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a tax reform bill, H.R. 1, that does just that, and more. The bill is designed to provide more jobs, fairer taxes, and bigger paychecks. It is meant to deliver tax relief to every income group, in every state. Analysis tells us that the average taxpayer at every income level gets a cut from this bill. The Tax Cuts & Jobs Act also reduces the corporate tax rate to 20%, which is a key component to revitalize our economy and bring jobs back to the U.S. The Tax Foundation projects this provision will lead to a million new jobs, faster GDP growth, and a 4% average increase in wages, which means everyones after-tax income goes up. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Mississippis Third District. ### Posted: November 16, 2017 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
