For over a century, the Chesapeake was ravaged by overharvests, sewage contamination, and excess nutrient and sediment runoff.The result was plummeting crab and oyster yields, polluted, litter-filled waters, and extreme degradation of underwater habitats upon which the entire ecosystem relies.
