The HIDTA program provides assistance to Federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas that are considered critical drug-trafficking regions in the United States. HIDTA currently funds 752 initiatives across the country, including enforcement, intelligence and information-sharing, and drug prevention and treatment. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) issued the following statement following Dorchester County’s designation: “The heroin and opioid epidemic claims thousands of lives every year in Maryland. Ending this public health crisis is a top priority for me, as I know it is for Governor Hogan and President Trump. Governor Hogan and Maryland’s first responders have made great strides to curb this epidemic, but there’s still work to be done.
