The funds were awarded under the Economic Impact Initiative Grants program of the Rural Development agency. According to the USDA, "This Rural Development investment will be used to assist Dorchester Post No. 91 with the purchase of furnishings and equipment for their facility in Cambridge, Maryland. Their existing facility was struck by lightning in April 2016, which caused a fire in the HVAC system. Insurance proceeds did not fully cover the reconstruction project and furnishing replacement. A loan through USDA's Community Facility Program was provided in 2017. The building was completely renovated and is now in full operation." Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement: "As a veteran, I strongly support American Legion posts throughout the First District, and this award to Post 91 in Dorchester is a welcome investment in the veterans in our community. As a member of the Agriculture Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee, I applaud the USDA for providing funding for veterans and their facilities in the First District.
