Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $24,347 federal grant to the City of Salisbury. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice and the funds will be dispersed through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The JAG program allows local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on local needs. According to the Department of Justice, these grant funds can be used for "state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following program areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs" and "8) mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs." Rep. Andy Harris made the following statement: "As a member of the Committee on Appropriations, I applaud the award of this grant to the City of Salisbury.
