The following businesses and farmers received awards on the Eastern Shore of Maryland: Choptank Corner LLC, in Cambridge, James B. Quinn, in Kennedyville, Rice's Inc. in Salisbury, Smartech Electrical Inc, in Chestertown, Williamson Farms LLC, in Mardela Springs, and Wilson Farm, in East New Market. The USDA allotted these awards under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). According to the USDA, "REAP funding can be used for renewable energy systems such as anaerobic digesters, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, wind and solar. It also can be used to make energy efficiency improvements to heating, ventilation and cooling systems; insulation; and lighting and refrigeration." Congressman Harris made the following statement: "I understand the importance of economic growth in rural America and I support our local communities. As a member of the Agriculture and Rural Development Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I welcome this investment in the Eastern Shore to support our hardworking small business owners, employees, and farmers.
