Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $139,171 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board (USWIB) on the Mid-Shore. The USWIB is part of the National American Job Center network and serves the five county region of Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Caroline, and Dorchester Counties. Funds originated from the National Dislocated Worker Grant Program, which provides resources to states and other eligible applicants to respond to large, unexpected layoff events causing significant job losses. This grant funding was part of a $118 million investment by DOL to help address the workforce impacts of COVID-19. Congressman Harris issued the following statement: "As a member of the House Appropriations subcommittee responsible for funding the Department of Labor, I'm pleased to support this sizable award to the Mid-Shore. During this national pandemic, we have seen the devastating impact that lockdowns and serious restrictions have on business, employment, and our well-being as individuals.
