Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $360,624 federal research grant to Salisbury University from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Engineering. According to HHS, Academic Research Enhancement Awards support biomedical research projects conducted by faculty in academic institutions that have not been major recipients of National Institutes of Health (NIH) research awards. These grants are intended to create a research opportunity for scientists and institutions otherwise unlikely to participate extensively in NIH programs to support the Nation's biomedical research effort. Specifically, Salisbury University faculty will utilize the award for designing intelligent iron-based MRI contrast agents. Congressman Harris made the following statement: "As a physician and member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am pleased to announce the award of this grant to Salisbury University.
