Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $184,738.10 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to the Galena Volunteer Fire Company in Kent County. The grant was awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG), and follows the announcement of a $2,552.38 AFG grant to Galena VFC in July. According to FEMA, "the primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards." Congressman Harris made the following statement: "As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am pleased to hear of this second, sizable grant to Galena VFC. These volunteers are active, selfless members of our community, and federal assistance like this goes a long way in helping them serve and protect the community.
