Harris Applauds $750,000 Rural Residency Planning and Development Award for University of Maryland 2019-07-18 2019 2019-07 Republican House MD Andy Harris H001052 harris.house.gov harris https://harris.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) applauds the award of $750,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for Rural Residency Planning and Development (RRPD) grants at the University of Maryland. HRSA is an agency under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Per HHS, "the RRPD program, administered by HRSA's Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP) and Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW), is part of a multi-year initiative by HRSA to expand the physician workforce in rural areas by developing new, sustainable residency programs in family medicine, internal medicine, and psychiatry. The recipients of the awards include rural hospitals, community health centers, health centers operated by the Indian Health Service, Indian tribes or tribal organizations, and schools of medicine." Rep. Harris made the following statement on the RRPD award: "As a physician myself, I know it's important to train physicians in rural areas because many physicians consider staying in practice in the communities where they trained. This HRSA grant will help our shortage of physicians on the Eastern Shore of Maryland." ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-06-27T23:32:25Z
