The projects entail the construction of two jetties to improve navigation at Rhodes Point and dredging the Big Thorofare and Twitch Cove federal channels. Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01), who advocated for the projects, issued the following statement in support of the projects: I commend the Army Corps of Engineers for their attention to these important projects. The residents of Smith Island heavily depend on these channels for transportation to and from the mainland, and to receive shipments of goods.
