Worcester and Wicomico Counites are designated High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA). HIDTA is a program overseen by the ONDCP aimed at reducing "drug trafficking and production in the United States." Rep. Harris announced that Worcester County joins the list of eligible counties nationwide to receive funds to combat the county's drug crisis. On Wednesday, September 4th, Rep. Harris applauded the Administration for investing $1.8 billion in state funding for the opioid crisis (read here). Rep. Harris made the following statement: "Worcester County has struggled with the opioid epidemic, as have many other counties across the nation. ONDCP's investment into the lower shore of Maryland's First District is a wise and welcome investment to combat the drug crisis facing both Worcester and Wicomico Counties. I am pleased that we will continue to fight this epidemic through prevention, treatment, and recovery programs in our communities at the local level. I support President Trump's dedication to end the crisis, which is a top priority for me in Congress alongside the Administration." ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-06-27T23:37:07Z
