Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) issued the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi instructed House leadership to introduce articles of impeachment against President Trump: Speaker Pelosi's announcement does not come as a surprise. The removal of President Trump has been a goal of Democrats in Congress since he was elected. This has been and continues to be their top priority in Congress while important issues such as rising healthcare costs, illegal immigration, the need to fund our military and strengthening our public schools gets ignored, Hartzler said. The Democrats obsession with reversing the will of the people and removing the President has damaged this country. From the beginning, Speaker Pelosi has said that an impeachment process that wasn't compelling, overwhelming, and bipartisan would divide our country. There has been nothing compelling, overwhelming, and bipartisan about a process built on second- and third-hand information, testimonies from academics who are donors to President Trump's political opponents, and a dishonest and illegitimate process that has turned into a political circus. Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats are trying to impeach the President because they do not like him and his policies. This is no reason to impeach a President and establishes a damaging precedent where those in power can remove a President because they do not agree with his or her policies. This action is a grotesque abuse of power by the Speaker and the left wing of her party as they try and erase the decision of nearly 1.6 million Missourians who voted for President Trump. This entire process is purely political in nature and needs to come to an end. We have pressing issues to work on here in Congress, including avoiding a government shutdown in two weeks, passing a defense spending bill, and moving forward the USMCA.
