Last August, the Postal Service closed the Morris Post Office, the only postal facility in town, stating the closure was “temporary.” However, the town of Morris still lacks a replacement post office, and the Postal Service has been unresponsive when town officials have asked for updates. The letter highlights the widespread disruptions the post office closure has imposed on the Morris, CT community: “Morris residents have been forced to travel approximately 20 minutes to the Thomaston Post Office to access basic postal services. This prolonged disruption has disproportionately affected senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and residents who do not have reliable transportation, all of whom are dependent on consistent access to essential postal services, including prescription deliveries, bill payments, and government correspondence. Currently, residents in Morris do not even have access to a public mailbox, forcing them to travel outside of Morris to send mail.
