Resident Commissioner Turns Down Pay During Government Shutdown This is in solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of federal employees who continue working without receiving their paycheck. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amidst the ongoing federal government shutdown, Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández (PR-AL) has requested that his pay be withheld until Congress reaches an agreement and the federal government is fully reopened. In a letter to Catherine Spzindor, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Resident commissioner wrote, “With the federal government shutdown, Members of Congress should play by the same rules as the people they represent. Until Congress does its job and reopens the government, Members of Congress should not receive pay.
