She released the following statement regarding this important development:“This recommendation represents significant progress toward realizing a basin-wide flood solution and fish protection plan. The rain and storms that come each November serve as reminders of the disaster that hit our communities in 2007, and can strike again unless we advance a plan to protect this region from catastrophic flooding. Bringing together so many citizens and stakeholders behind this recommendation has been no small feat. I applaud Governor Inslee and the Chehalis Basin Work Group for their countless hours of work, focus, and dedication to this issue. There is no partisanship when it comes to protecting families and communities from flood damage or restoring a vibrant fishery in the Chehalis River basin. Since I was first elected as Southwest Washington’s federal representative, I’ve supported a cooperative, citizen-driven effort to protect the residents who call this region home, as well as fish habitat, interstate transportation and commerce. I remain actively ready to help with this proposal however I can as it moves forward.” Jaime has been at the forefront of finding a basin wide solution since her election to Congress. In 2012 she fought to block any flood plan that only protected the I-5 corridor, leaving communities more vulnerable to devastating floods. Click here to read about those efforts.
