https://herrerabeutler.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=398639 Congresswomen Herrera Beutler, Roybal-Allard Create New Congressional Caucus on Maternity Care 2015-10-29 2015 2015-10 Republican House WA Jaime Herrera Beutler H001056 herrerabeutler.house.gov     legacy Today, U.S. Representatives Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) announced the formation of a new, bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Maternity Care in the U.S. House of Representatives. Each year, approximately 4,000,000 women give birth in this country. The U.S. spends significantly more per capita on childbirth than any other industrialized nation. However, despite this investment, America continues to rank far behind almost all other developed countries in birth outcomes for both mothers and babies. The goal of the Congressional Caucus on Maternity Care is to raise awareness about important and timely maternity care-related issues, and highlight challenges facing Americas maternity care system. Caucus members will promote cost-effective and optimal outcomes for both high- and low-risk pregnancies by highlighting bipartisan policy solutions based on the best available evidence. Women are 51% of our countrys population the majority of whom are the age where theyre having kids, or they are already caring for children or grandchildren, said Congresswoman Herrera Beutler. Working to improve health outcomes and research for moms and babies is just one important way we can help support the millions of women who do so much to support all the people in their lives. Its unacceptable that the United States is lagging behind other countries in maternal health care. I look forward to using this new platform with Congresswoman Roybal-Allard and our colleagues from both parties to advance awareness, education and solutions to improve life for mothers and their children. We cannot continue to afford or accept a maternity care system in which childbirth carries significant risks for both mothers and babies, especially in communities of color, said Congresswoman Roybal-Allard. Our Congressional Caucus on Maternity Care will explore the best evidence about safe and effective maternity care for all women and babies, and work to make this issue a national priority. I invite my colleagues to join me and Congresswoman Herrera Beutler in this caucus. Working together, we can develop bipartisan policy solutions which will make Americas maternity care system the best it can be. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
