Earlier this year through her work on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, Herrera Beutler helped secure the highest-ever overall funding level for the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program that is distributing the grants. This week, $875,000 in grants were awarded specifically to seven programs in Clark and Klickitat counties. The money will provide local community coalitions funding to prevent youth substance use, including prescription drugs, marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol. Protecting our youth and helping them achieve fulfilling and healthy lives requires each of us to do our part parents, mentors, teachers, peers, pastors, coaches and elected officials, Herrera Beutler said. From my position in Congress, I'm pleased to support the coalitions on the ground as they work to prevent youth substance use in Clark and Klickitat counties. It is vital these organizations are equipped with the resources to help our young men and women make healthy life choices. 2019 Southwest Washington DFC grant recipients: Evergreen Coalition (Evergreen School District No. 114) $125,000 Teen Advocacy Coalition (Lifeline Connections) $125,000 La Center United (Evergreen School District No. 112) $125,000 Unite!
