In addition to helping secure funding for this grant program as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Herrera Beutler specifically advocated for the city's request for federal funds to replace the four oldest buses in the RiverCities Transit fleet. Transit is a lifeline in Longview and Kelso, so I'm very pleased to help residents get to school, work and doctor's appointments with upgraded and reliable buses. Through my work in Congress, I've consistently supported strong funding for bus services and it was my honor to make sure that those dollars are serving Cowlitz County residents, Herrera Beutler said. Our community has consistently supported safe and reliable public transportation for low income families, students, senior citizens and those with disabilities. However, we can't do it aloneand we appreciate our partnership with the Federal Transit Administration. FTA's grant award to replace four buses operating long past their useful life is greatly needed and we are so grateful to our Congressional delegation for supporting our request, especially to Congresswoman Herrera Beutler for her direct advocacy, said Dennis Weber, Cowlitz County Commissioner and Chair of the Cowlitz Transit Authority. The city's four oldest buses were the only remaining high-floor biodiesel buses in the fleet. As RiverCities Transit has increased services provided to the communities of Longview and Kelso, the vehicle fleet has expanded and vehicles are running more miles and are in service longer now than in years past. This grant funding will help the city purchase four low-floor replacement biodiesel coaches to replace old, outdated buses that have over 410,000 miles on average. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
