Today, Rep. French Hill (AR-02) issued the following statement after voting against amending the Consolidated Appropriations Act to increase Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) to $2,000 per individual: We must focus our resources to assist families, individuals, small businesses, and working Arkansans and Americans in the most effective way possible. Increasing EIPs to $2,000 per individual will not serve to benefit our economy in the long-run. It is not the most optimal form of relief for the American people, who need immediate support. Without this amendment, the bipartisan Consolidated Appropriations Act includes much-needed rental assistance. It extends the Paycheck Protection Program, which will keep more small business employees earning wages. It increases unemployment benefits for those struggling to find work as a result of the pandemic. It provides $2,400 of EIPs to a family of four. Finally, it will give our governors the flexibility to spend unused CARES Act funds. Although I voted in favor of the Consolidated Appropriations Act in order to provide relief to the people of Arkansas in a timely manner, the $600 EIPs should have been better targeted to Americans who are truly suffering from the negative impact of the pandemic. f t # e | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
