"Iowans expect their elected officials to serve the people, not themselves, and they deserve elections they can trust. If you need an ID to board a plane and buy a six pack, you should need an ID to vote – this is a commonsense election integrity policy that the vast majority of Americans support. "Additionally, Members of Congress should not use insider information to trade stocks. I voluntarily sold my publicly traded individual stocks shortly after taking office and believe every Member of Congress should be held to that same standard. Voter ID and ensuring Members of Congress aren’t trading public stocks are commonsense reforms that restore confidence in our institutions. There’s still way more work to do to clean up Washington, but this is an important step in the right direction to restore integrity to public service and our nation’s elections.” — Congresswoman Ashley Hinson Background: The Voter ID Act requires voters to present a photo ID when voting in federal elections, while ensuring eligible voters can still cast a provisional ballot if they forget their ID. The Stop Insider Trading Act prohibits Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from purchasing publicly traded stocks. It also increases transparency by requiring advance public notice before covered stock sales and establishes penalties for violations. Hinson does not trade stocks. She and her husband sold their publicly traded individual stocks shortly after she began serving in Congress. Read more here. ### 1 2026-07-23T07:31:02Z 2026-07-23T07:32:26Z
